Aus vielen Autos erschallt Musik. Auto fahren und Musik hören ist zu einer Einheit geworden. Auf langen Reisen ist die Lieblingsmusik immer dabei und der urbane Stop-and-go-Verkehr wird erst durch die richtige musikalische Untermalung erträglich.

Die Installation Kreismusik adaptiert einen bestehenden Kreisverkehr und gibt ihm die Funktionalität einer Schallplatte. Am inneren Randstreifen werden Noppen in unterschiedlichen Abständen - ähnlich einer Partitur - montiert. Das darüber fahrende Auto wird zum Resonanzkörper und macht für die Insassen eine Melodie hörbar. Das Auto wird somit zur Nadel, der Randstreifen zur Rille und der Kreisverkehr zur Schallplatte.

Das Projekt entwirft eine neue Sichtweise auf das Verhältnis von Musik und Verkehr. Die Melodie klingt nicht aus dem Auto - das Fahrzeug selbst erzeugt die Töne. Damit wird die technisch-funktionale Ebene des Kreisverkehrs um ein neues, spielerisches Moment erweitert. Sie ermöglicht dem Fahrer, den Kreisverkehr als Musikinstrument zu benutzten und selber zum Spontan-Komponisten zu werden. Kreismusik verändert den Verkehr und an die Stelle des störenden Lärms tritt Musik.

In this installation an already existing roundabout is transformed into a giant record. Elevated strips in different distances are mounted on the inner edge - similar to a score. By driving over them the car becomes the resonance body and reveals the giant record's melody to the passengers. The car becomes thus the needle, the streetshoulder the groove and the roundabout the record.

The project sketches a new aspect on the relationship between music and traffic. The melody does not sound from the inside of the car, but the vehicle itself produces the tones. Thus the technical-functional level of the roundabout is expanded by a new and playful element. The driver can use the roundabout as a musical instrument and become a spontaneous composer.

“Kreismusik” changes the traffic and at the same time replaces the disturbing noise by music.
